Dispute with the collector, the entity reporting the account to the CRA: "(your name) (your address) (Collector address as on credit report or collection letter) (Date) To Whom It May Concern: I hereby dispute the collection (account # as on credit report or collection letter) on my credit report. Sincerely, (your name) ----------------------------------- Don't make yourself look like a clueless moron by using one of the idiotic form letters posted all over the web. Make sure you can prove that the collector received the dispute. Then dispute with the reporting credit bureaus: "Please immediately delete accont [...], this collection is disputed." ----------------------------------- You have solid FDCPA and FCRA violations if they don't delete or report the account as disputed in response to the credit bureau investigation. If they report as disputed, you need to get your FICO reports to determine whether the account is still lowering your scores. More info on disputes and collections is at CreditFactors |
